Organic Meadow Launched North America's First Carbon-Neutral Milk Carton
Laura McQuarrie — October 25, 2021Guelph-based farmer-owned co-operative Organic Meadow transitioned its two-liter organic milk to carbon-neutral milk cartons that are the first of their kind in North America. The paperboard packaging solution provided by Elopak makes the most of Pure-Pak Natural Brown Board and it is the first carbon-neutral carbon of its kind in North America, although it is already widely accepted in European markets.
The new innovation on the Canadian market features a distinct brown hue thanks to the use of natural and unbleached FSC-certified paperboard. The use of this material means that the carton generates 27% fewer CO2 emissions and is 18% lighter compared to traditional milk cartons. For a Certified CarbonNeutral package, the remaining carbon emissions are offset with programs.
