Nirani Sugars Invests in a New Polylactic Acid Facility

Nirani Sugars has announced a significant investment in Karnataka’s industrial landscape with plans to establish a cutting-edge Polylactic Acid (PLA) manufacturing facility in Bagalkot. The company has signed an agreement with the Karnataka government to invest ₹2,000 crore in the project.

The upcoming plant, expected to be fully operational within three to five years, is projected to generate many employment opportunities for local communities.

Polylactic Acid, a biodegradable polymer derived from renewable resources like corn starch and sugarcane, is becoming an environmentally friendly alternative in packaging, textiles, and bioplastics. Producing this domestically will allow Nirani Sugars to reduce import dependence and contribute to India’s growing bioeconomy.

The Karnataka government, in turn, has pledged to facilitate the necessary approvals, infrastructure support, and incentives to ensure the project's smooth execution.
