Public eBike Sharing Programs
The City of Mississauga Partnered with Lime and Bird Canada
Colin Smith — January 30, 2025The City of Mississauga has partnered with Lime Technology, Inc. and Bird Canada to launch its first shared system of e-bikes and e-scooters. This initiative aims to provide residents and visitors with a sustainable and convenient mode of transportation. Up to 300 electric pedal-assist bicycles (e-bikes) and 900 electric kick-style scooters (e-scooters) will be available for rent across Mississauga at over 600 locations, including near community centers, libraries, bus stops, and park entrances. The program is designed to reduce car trips, promote active transportation, and contribute to the city's climate change goals.
The shared e-bike and e-scooter system allows users to rent devices through the Lime and Bird apps, offering flexibility in pick-up and drop-off locations. Both companies have implemented safety measures, such as no-ride zones on sidewalks and slow-ride zones in high foot traffic areas, to ensure a safe riding experience. The program supports Mississauga's commitment to building an interconnected and accessible transportation network, providing residents with more options for sustainable travel.
