A hydrogen-fueled manufacturing demonstration at Kellogg’s UK factory marked a significant sustainability milestone, making it the first food manufacturer in the country to produce cereal using hydrogen. Funded through the UK government’s HyNet Industrial Fuel Switching programme, the three-week trial replaced fossil fuels with hydrogen to power the toasting ovens, successfully producing cereals like Corn Flakes and Rice Krispies.

This initiative supports Kellogg’s broader climate goals under its Better Days promise, which has already achieved a 54% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions across Europe. The demonstration reduced greenhouse gases and provided employees with key upskilling opportunities.

By showcasing hydrogen’s potential in food manufacturing, Kellogg’s aims to inspire wider industry adoption of low-carbon solutions. The success of this project highlights the transformative role hydrogen can play in decarbonizing industries and advancing the UK’s journey toward Net Zero carbon emissions.
