Carbon Neutral Festivals

The Hillside Festival in Guelph is Now Completely Carbon Neutral

The Hillside Festival is now completely carbon neutral. The festival takes place every year at the Guelph Lake Conservation Area, located in Guelph Ontario. Those planning the Hillside Festival have been focused on reducing its carbon footprint for some time, and have previously used reusable food and drink containers as well as tree planting.

Despite previous efforts, the festival was struggling to be entirely carbon neutral. This was in part due to transportation, where those coming to the Hillside Festival were producing an average of 57 tonnes of CO2 a year. Transportation emissions were able to be addressed by purchasing carbon offsets. The festival purchases carbon offsets through a wind power initiative in India, which was able to address push the festival toward its goal of being carbon neutral.
