Climate-Neutral Soccer Matches

FC Dordrecht and TOP Oss Hosted the First Climate-Neutral Match

FC Dordrecht and TOP Oss are making strides in the environmentally friendly sports category with the organization and launch of the first-ever climate-neutral soccer match in Dutch professional football. To realize this very important initiative, FC Dordrecht connected with the Energiek Dordt network, the KNVB, and its opponent TOP Oss to examine possible pathways for minimizing the carbon footprint of the match. The collaborators took a holistic approach, examining transportation methods, energy use, stadium food, and more.

At the climate-neutral soccer match, which was held in May 2023, FC Dordrecht and its partners promoted the use of public transport among fans, orchestrated free rides on shared bicycles and electric buses, and provided reservable stadium parking spots for electric vehicles. For food, on the other hand, fans could only opt in for vegetarian options.
