Deconstructable Porridge Packaging

Greiner's Sustainable Packaging Takes Over UK Breakfast Aisles

Seven leading food retailers in the UK have embraced a new sustainable packaging innovation from Greiner Packaging UK & Ireland, switching to the company’s latest K3 r100 self-separating solution for their own-brand instant porridge pots.

Unlike its predecessor, which relied on consumer participation to manually separate the cardboard sleeve from the plastic cup, K3 r100 introduces an automatic separation process. Before reaching near-infrared (NIR) sorting systems at recycling facilities, the materials detach independently, ensuring proper identification and placement into the correct recycling streams. Consumers can also benefit from a new tear-tab that helps separate the wrap from the cup.

"Waitrose, Greggs, Morrisons, M&S, Tesco, Lidl and Asda have all moved their successful ready to eat instant porridge brands to our increasingly popular award-winning K3 r100 packaging solution,” said Greiner Packaging UK & Ireland sustainability and innovation manager Rachel Sheldon.
