The Centre for Land Conservation Recognizes Six Land Trusts
Kalin Ned — March 20, 2025The Centre for Land Conservation has introduced the Conservation Excellence Certification Program and recognized six Canadian land trusts for their exceptional contributions to environmental preservation. This initiative is supported by Environment and Climate Change Canada and various philanthropic organizations. The certification program aims to elevate standards within the land conservation sector by evaluating organizations based on conservation impact, governance, and sustainability practices.
The inaugural recipients of the Centre for Land Conservation's Conservation Excellence Certification include the Ontario Farmland Trust, Southern Interior Land Trust (BC), Kawartha Land Trust (ON), Haliburton Highlands Land Trust (ON), Couchiching Conservancy (ON), and Nature Trust of New Brunswick.
This program not only highlights the importance of protected natural areas for biodiversity, climate resilience, and community well-being but also aims to inspire confidence among donors and partners, with 90% of Canadian donors reporting increased trust in third-party certified organizations.
