Ocean exploration and technology company Deep has unveiled its plans for an extraordinary underwater research station, dubbed 'Sentinel,' that would well and truly serve as an accelerating factor for deep ocean research by making it possible for scientists and researchers to go about dwelling in a safe underwater habitat for long periods, opening up all kinds of research possibilities.

The 'Sentinel' underwater research station would include living areas, entertainment hubs, bathrooms and needed amenities as well as the all-important research laboratories. Elements such as renewable power and waste-processing facilities are also being planned.

Considering that depths of around 200 meters are considered part of the epipelagic zone which represents the area where around 90 percent of marine life is located, Deep is cognizant of the fact that "being able to comprehensively explore the full extent of this part of the ocean rather than just performing incursions from the surface, will represent a step-change in the way scientists can observe, monitor, and understand the oceans."
