Tubular Pollution Detectors
The 'Drifter' Can Accurately Sense Pollution and Monitor Flash Floods
Rahul Kalvapalle — July 30, 2018A team of scientists working out of the Queensland University of Technology in Australia created a high-tech pollution detector, simply dubbed the Drifter, that is designed to be deployed into rivers and water bodies in order to detect pollution as well as issue warnings about impending flash floods.
The Drifter pollution detector takes the form of a PVC tube fitted with an array of sensors and modules that enable it to not only detect environmental changes and signals that indicate pollution fears or flooding activity but also communicate them along with GPS readings.
Currently still in trial phase, the Drifter pollution detector is a compact and easily deployable piece of technology that could go a long way towards improving the ecological health of areas prone to floods and river pollution.
