Climate Change-Inspired Installations
'The Melted Gondola' Can Be Viewed on Top of Ajax Mountain
Caitlyn Fernandez — January 28, 2022'The Melted Gondola' is an art installation on top of Ajax Mountain in Aspen created by artist Chris Erickson. The piece is a commentary on climate change and its effect on the skiing and snowboarding industry. It features a gondola is tipped on its side, melting into a blood-red puddle. Through the power of art, the installation aims to raise awareness to viewers about the environmental issues that many feels aren't openly spoken about enough.
As mentioned in Chris Erickson's Instagram post, "Aspen Snowmass has taken an aggressive stance on the climate change crisis and has implemented actions to help reduce carbon emissions." With initiatives like 'Give a Flake' and 'Capturing Coal Methane To Power Operations,' Aspen Snowmass has been working on preserving and driving the ski and snowboarding industry to be more sustainable and environmentally friendly.
