The City of London Debuts a Sustainability Plan for Developers
Kanesa D — January 21, 2025The City of London Corporation’s Planning and Transportation Committee has approved a Planning for Sustainability Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) to provide comprehensive sustainability guidance for the built environment sector.
The SPD outlines detailed strategies for integrating sustainability into building design, construction, and operation. Key objectives of the SPD include enabling Square Mile to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2040, enhancing climate resilience, and fostering sustainable economic growth.
The document provides a roadmap for the built environment to support London’s broader environmental and financial objectives by addressing critical challenges such as energy efficiency, carbon reduction, and climate adaptation.
“The City of London is home to some of the most sustainable commercial buildings on the planet and as it continues to be a hugely attractive place for office occupiers, we are setting the pace globally for sustainable design, with the delivery of the next generation of new and retrofit developments, to attract the best global talent, innovators and high growth businesses," said Shravan Joshi, Chairman of the City of London Corporation’s Planning and Transport Committee.
