Sustainable Campus Transportation Efforts

The SGEF and Campus Rec at USFSP are Improving Mobility

The Student Green Energy Fund (SGEF) at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg (USFSP) has partnered with Campus Recreation to enhance access to sustainable transportation on campus. This collaboration aims to revitalize and improve the bike checkout program, offering students a more comfortable and eco-friendly mode of transportation. The new bike models feature wider tires, pedal brakes, and baskets for personal items, making them suitable for various errands and commutes around the city. The bright yellow color and visible tracking numbers help deter theft, and heavy-duty chain locks are provided to ensure bike security.

By promoting the use of these electric bikes, SGEF and Campus Recreation are working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and encourage sustainable habits among students. The initiative aligns with SGEF's mission to lower waste levels and improve energy efficiency on campus. Students can borrow the bikes for up to a week, with options to extend the rental period if needed. This program not only supports environmental sustainability but also provides students with a convenient and healthy way to explore the city and reduce their reliance on personal vehicles.
