Bean Protein Expansions
Protein Industries Canada will Develop Sustainable Ingredients
Debra John — December 6, 2024Protein Industries Canada (PIC) is leading a project to develop sustainable, high-protein ingredients from faba beans as part of an effort to expand Canada's plant-based protein offerings. The initiative aims to create neutral-flavored faba protein ingredients for use in various food products, such as meat alternatives for consumers and brands.
As such, the project is a collaboration between several organizations, including "Griffith Foods, BFY Proteins, Botaniline, and Faba Canada." These companies are working together to improve the processing of faba beans, focusing on producing allergen-free, high-protein, and lower-sodium ingredients that meet the food industry's needs. This development of faba bean-based ingredients is intended to support the growing demand for sustainable and plant-based alternatives in the food sector.
