The MTZ Blok 70 Basketball Court is Made with 20,000 Sneakers
Michael Hemsworth — October 28, 2021The MTZ Blok 70 basketball court has been designed by Accept & Proceed as an outdoor sports space in New Belgrade, Serbia to help positive affect the community and make use of end-of-life products.
The court is achieved using 20,000 upcycled sneakers, which were collected from the surrounding community to help create a greater emotional connection to the space. The court comes as part of the Nike 'Move to Zero' brand to help the activewear brand address products that are no longer functional, but can be repurposed into something new.
Creative Director at Accept & Proceed Matthew Jones spoke on the MTZ Blok 70 basketball court saying, "It’s no understatement that helping the world’s best sports brand with its sustainability initiative makes me feel immensely proud of the work we’re doing at Accept & Proceed. Our visual identity for Nike’s ‘Move to Zero’ brand came to life within our court and playground design in New Belgrade and I feel incredibly inspired to know that design, community, and responsibility towards our planet were all integral elements in this project. Moreover, to witness and be part of the meaningful connections between Nike and local communities shows a new way forward, especially for the role of designers — sowing of the seeds for an active future and better tomorrow."
