QR-Enabled Logistics Packaging
Metsä Board Enhances its Packaging Products with QR Technology
Kanesa D — December 3, 2024Metsä Board, a leading fibre paperboard company, is launching QR technology on its packaging materials that consumers can scan for an accurate component breakdown and recycling information. Recognizing the complexities of sorting and recycling packaging, the brand is dedicated to enhancing pallet and reel labels on all delivered product volumes.
When scanned, these QR codes direct customers to a dedicated app that offers detailed guidance on the specific materials used to protect the paperboard during its journey through the logistics chain. This includes instructions on how each component—such as wraps, straps, or separators—can be properly recycled based on local recycling guidelines.
"The implementation of the new recycling QR codes on our paperboard deliveries stems from a strong commitment to sustainability and customer convenience,” said Isto Hongisto, product safety specialist at Metsä Board. “Recycling can sometimes be complex, and our goal is to make it as seamless and straightforward as possible for our customers. This initiative will not only save them time, but it will also ensure that the materials used in our deliveries are recycled in an optimal way.”
