Kengo Kuma Designs the Marumarushikaku Shelf for More Trees
Amy Duong — March 28, 2024References: yankodesign & more-trees-design.jp
The late Japanese pianist and composer Ryuichi Sakamoto is the main inspiration behind the Marumarushikaku bookshelf by Kengo Kuma. This wooden bookshelf was designed for More Trees, which is a design studio by Sakamoto. It boasts a modular design language and uses materials that are collected from local forests in Japan to build on its sustainable ethos.
It is comprised of various shapes that stack together, which results in an artful look, acting like a standalone decorative shelf on its own. The shelving sections are rectangular boards and it is stacked with round pillar boards on top of one another. These can be arranged around to create new variations and function as dividers between different items.
