Electra has introduced the design of its 'EL9 Ultra Short' hybrid-electric aircraft, a nine-passenger, piloted model aimed at advancing electric aviation. The aircraft is designed to address key challenges in air travel by reducing dependence on traditional airports, minimizing emissions, and lowering noise levels.

This unveiling "follows over a year of successful flight testing with Electra's EL2 Goldfinch prototype, a two-seat aircraft that demonstrated the feasibility of the technology for larger aircraft." The EL9 is now entering its development phase, building on this testing success.

The aircraft features "a combination of blown lift technology and distributed electric propulsion, utilizing four independent battery packs and a turbine-powered generator that drives eight electric motors mounted along the wings." This design ultimately enables the EL9 to generate high lift at low airspeeds, making it suitable for ultra-short takeoff and landing operations.
