Plastic-Collecting Ocean Projects
Eco Eyewear and WFO Launch a Waste-Catching Ocean Barrier
Kanesa D — December 2, 2024Waste Free Oceans (WFO) and Eco Eyewear have joined forces to tackle plastic pollution by installing an innovative waste-catching barrier in Dar es Salaam’s Feza River. This strategic initiative, which was carried out in collaboration with local partner The Recyclers, aims to intercept plastic waste before it reaches the ocean.
Once collected, the plastic waste is sorted, recycled, and repurposed into new, eco-friendly products, creating a circular economy model that reduces environmental impact while inspiring change in consumption and waste management practices.
According to the first in a series of monthly reports, the barrier has already prevented over 249 kilograms of plastic bottles and residual waste from entering the ocean.
"We are excited to collaborate with Eco Eyewear to bring this solution to Dar es Salaam’s Feza River. Together, we are taking meaningful action to reduce plastic waste and foster a more sustainable future," said Alexandre Dangis, president of WFO.
