Advanced Heat Pump Technologies
Copeland Partnered with HVAC for Decarbonization Goals
Debra John — January 16, 2025Copeland partnered with HVAC companies, including AAON, to advance cold-climate heat pump (CCHP) technologies in line with the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Residential and Commercial Building Heat Pump Technology Challenges. These partnerships aim to improve heat pump performance in colder climates, providing energy-efficient, low-carbon alternatives to traditional fossil fuel heating.
Heat pumps offer an efficient solution by utilizing renewable energy to operate year-round. The focus of these collaborations is "to enhance performance at temperatures as low as -15°F, addressing residential and commercial heating needs in colder environments."
Copeland’s role "in advancing these technologies is further supported by two 2024 DOE grants; one grant funds the research and development of modular heat pump technology with integrated thermal energy storage, while the other expands production capacity for heat pump compressors." These efforts help meet the growing demand for efficient solutions in various sectors.
