The University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin) is collaborating with Honeywell to further develop commercial carbon recapture technologies. The current carbon recapture technology used by UT Austin is a solvent-based solution that enables carbon to be captured at a low cost through highly efficient equipment that is smaller than what is typically used.

UT Austin's research has stated that applying its carbon recapture technology to a typically 650 MW power plant results in the capture of roughly 3.4 million tons of CO2 per year. This is the direct equivalent to the emissions from 735,000 cars that drive daily. Through this collaboration with Honeywell, this patented solvent-based carbon recapture technology will be made commercially available and applicable in more factories across the state. While this technology is quite effective at dealing with power plants, UT Austin and Honeywell believe that more industries must be targeted in order to create a sustainable future, such as transportation, food production, or architecture development.
