Eco-Friendly Shipping Boats

These Vela Sailboats are Designed with Carbon Fiber Masts

The trimaran sailboats, designed by Vela, feature carbon fiber masts and represent a modern solution to eco-friendly maritime shipping. These innovative vessels are "expected to begin operations in the latter half of 2026, utilizing the ports of La Rochelle in Charente-Maritime and Honfleur in Calvados." Constructed in a Philippines shipyard by an Australian company, the sailboats will have aluminum hulls for enhanced durability and weight efficiency.

Each trimaran will include "approximately 30% of its value, including sails, sourced from French companies while the deck will be primarily covered with photovoltaic panels to power onboard electrical systems, supplemented by two hydro-generators for additional renewable energy." An electric-powered hydraulic motor, drawing energy from solar panels, hydro-generators, or a diesel engine when necessary, will manage sail adjustments and port maneuvering.

With their combination of advanced renewable energy technologies and sustainable design, these trimaran sailboats reflect Vela’s commitment to reducing the environmental impact of maritime transportation.
