We know the problem

Vattenfall, in collaboration with Denmark's Aarhus University, is pioneering a project to grow seafood under offshore wind turbines in Scandinavia. The initiative, known as Win@Sea, aims to produce sustainable food while generating fossil-free energy. The project is being conducted at the Kriegers Flak wind farm, Scandinavia's largest offshore wind farm, where blue mussels, sugar kelp, sea lettuce, and dulse are being cultivated on lines suspended between the turbines. This innovative approach seeks to utilize the limited space at sea efficiently, contributing positively to biodiversity and the marine environment.

The Win@Sea project is a multi-year collaboration involving several Danish universities and companies, with Vattenfall providing the wind farm infrastructure and operational support. The project's research activities include monitoring the environmental impact of the aquaculture operations and exploring ways to enhance marine biodiversity. The harvested seafood and seaweed are expected to offer a low-climate footprint alternative to traditional food sources, aligning with the growing demand for sustainable food production.

By combining renewable energy production with sustainable food cultivation, the Win@Sea project represents a significant step towards a more integrated and environmentally friendly approach to resource management.
