Waste Reduction Robots
'Clarke' Can Separate Garbage from Recyclables in Landfills
Ellen Smith — July 26, 2017'Clarke' is a waste reduction robot that's employed to clean up overflowing landfills by sorting garbage from plastics.
We all know the undeniable benefits of recycling, yet still plastic and paper contents are piling up in landfills. To combat this issue 'AMP Robotics' developed a working robot that is employed to clean up the mess humans have created. Working out of a landfill in Colorado, Clarke uses infrared sensors to detect juice boxes, milk cartons and any other recyclable materials. Using an extendable arm and suction cups, the robot can retrieve these items from a landfill and ensure they reach a designated recycling bin.
Clarke functions with 90% accuracy and a speed of 60 items per minute, doing a job 50% faster than the average human employee can.
