The Whirlpool Corporation innovation incubator 'WLabs' designed a composting device for the home that turns kitchen scraps into fertilizer.

The Zera Food Recycler was designed to function as an alternative for people who don't have access to a compost pile or service. The composting device can break down a week's worth of food scraps and turn it into fertilizer in just 24 hours. Once food is scraped into the device, the automatic app-controlled unit "stirs and aerates the food scaps" along with a plant-based additive. The recyler works to reduce approximately 400 pounds of food waste per household each year.

This composting device could do wonders in reducing the amount of waste families produce, and provides further incentive for gardeners who could use the fertilizer it produces.
