A team of 15 partners from across the European Union joined forces to create the Almere Smart Circular Bridge. The bridge is uniquely designed with organic materials. The bridge is located in the city of Alere in the Netherlands and aims to demonstrate the potential of flax as a material in construction. According to the team of builders, flax can replace steel in construction for a more eco-friendly option.

The bridge is built from flax fibers combined with bio-resin and polyurethane foam blocks. This combination creates a stable and lightweight composite to replace traditional materials. The Smart Circular Bridge aims to provide crucial data on the material's durability over time in hopes that it could serve as a viable construction option in the future.
