Yaba's Rector has Told Reserachers to Focus on Sustainability
Colin Smith — November 16, 2024The Rector of Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, Dr. Ibraheem Abdul, has tasked researchers, scholars, and practitioners with ensuring their innovations contribute to sustainable development. During the seventh International Conference and Exhibition of the college, themed "Scientific and Technological Innovations: Catalysts for Sustainable Transformation and Development," Dr. Abdul emphasized the critical role of science and technology in addressing global challenges such as climate change, resource depletion, and social inequalities. He highlighted the importance of research and innovation in developing new technologies and fostering a sustainability-focused mindset, from renewable energy solutions to smarter urban planning.
Dr. Abdul also underscored the unique position of scientists and technologists as catalysts for transformation, urging them to ensure their advancements support sustainable development. He noted that tertiary institutions in Nigeria must recognize that innovation in science and technology can redefine industries, enhance productivity, and improve quality of life. The rector emphasized that the role of scholars and practitioners extends beyond innovation for its own sake; they must ensure their advancements meet present needs without compromising future generations.
