Tesco has announced it will be ditching multipack plastic wrapping packaging for its private label drink products to reduce its use of the material in favor of more sustainable alternatives.

The brand will start with its private label carbonated drinks, which will save roughly 12-million pieces of plastic on a yearly basis before moving onto additional drinks in the fall. The update will see multipacks offered freestyle and thus allow consumers to mix and match some of their favorite flavors.

Tesco Head of Packaging Development Johnny Neville commented on the elimination of multipack plastic wrapping saying, "Customers are focused on getting great value right now, but they still want to use less plastic. Not only is this move great news for the environment but it will also offer customers more choice and flexibility when it comes to fizzy drinks – at no extra cost. It could even work out much cheaper for customers who want a variety of drinks.”
