Loop's Waste-Reducing Packaging is Being Introduced to Retail

Loop introduced itself as a circular shopping platform where consumers could shop online, receive products in waste-reducing packaging and return the plastic-free containers in the mail. Loop began testing its platform in the spring of 2019, making it possible for consumers to purchase ice cream in metal tins and mayonnaise jars that are glass rather than plastic.

Now, Loop is seeing that companies and consumers alike are continuing to demand ways to address packaging waste that are convenient and accessible. Later this year, Loop products are coming to Walgreens and Kroger in the United States, Carrefour in France, Tesco in the UK and Loblaw's in Canada.

Often, the onus falls on consumers to handle packaging material waste but this initiative has the potential for retailers to help share the responsibility.
