Closed Loop Partners is managing a reusable bag pilot program being launched with Target, Kroger, CVS Health, and Dollar General in a bid to help make single-use bags a thing of the past. The pilot project will offer shoppers returnable bags to encourage consumers to always use a reusable bag instead of opting for single-use alternatives. The pilot project will see shoppers able to purchase a bag at the checkout and receive their $1 deposit back when they return it to any participating retailer.

Managing Director and Head of the Center for Circular Economy at Closed Loop Partners Kate Daly spoke on the initiative saying, "We need to consider a range of needs, contexts and policy landscapes to create a less wasteful future for the retail bag. These two pilots are complementary by design, understanding that a diversity of solutions is needed to effect systems change and mitigate unintended consequences.”
