The Aldi Compostable Carrier Bags are Made from Bioplast
Michael Hemsworth — June 11, 2019The Aldi compostable carrier bags have been announced by the brand as part of its initiative to help curb its environmental impact and offer shoppers a more sustainable packaging option.
The brand will launch the new compostable bags along with reusable paper bags at all of its 830 stores in the UK at a cost of 6p and 19p, respectively. The biodegradable bags are made from a material called Bioplast that will break down in just 12 months, while the paper option is made from paper sourced from sustainably managed forests.
Managing Director of Corporate Responsibility at Aldi Fritz Walleczek spoke on the new Aldi compostable carrier bags saying that, "Reducing the amount of plastic we produce is fundamental to our commitment to being a sustainable and environmentally responsible business. This trial will identify the option which best suits our shoppers. Cutting waste is part of Aldi’s DNA and we are constantly looking for new ways to reduce our environmental impact. This new trial is one of the biggest we have ever launched because we want our customers to be involved and help us make the right decision for them and the environment.”
