The need for biodegradable products is becoming more widely apparent as consumer waste reaches new highs, which is seeing some companies respond with new options like the PG Tips tea brand.

The brand has committed to creating tea bags that are crafted from a plant-based material instead of polypropylene to ensure that the entire product will break down after use. This material is crafted from corn starch, which is reported to be fully biodegradable and 100% renewable to ensure they are as sustainably oriented as possible.

The PG Tips tea brand biodegradable tea bags were explained by Noel Clarke, Unilever VP of Refreshment, who said, "The new 100% plant-based material we’re moving to is an innovation based on cutting edge science and technology and we’re all really excited that. Starting from now, the PG Tips that you know and love will come from 100% plant-based material from a renewable source that’s fully biodegradable."
