Plastic rings are commonplace for beer packaging but are quickly becoming a faux-pas in the industry as consumers seek to reduce their purchase of the material, which is seeing brands respond with new initiatives like with this Coors Light packaging.

Molson Coors has announced it will be eliminating plastic ring packaging by the end of 2022, which will reportedly save 1.7-million pounds of plastic waste on an annual basis. The packaging update is part of an $85 million investment to help increase the brand's sustainability across its whole product portfolio.

Senior Marketing Manager for Coors Light Tracey Schenck commented on the new Coors Light packaging saying, "We don’t believe buying beer should mean buying single-use plastic. As one of the largest beer brands in the world, we constantly evaluate how we can improve and evolve our packaging to meet environmental and consumer standards and we are so proud of this step today. We hope it inspires others in the industry to do the same.”
