LEGO Swaps Out its Tires for New Ones Made with 30% Recycled Materials

LEGO has unveiled a new initiative to incorporate tires made from over 30% recycled materials, helping make its products more safe and sustainable for all.

Under this initiative, LEGO is giving discarded materials a second life by transforming them into durable set components. The new tire material, rSEBS (recycled styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrene), is crafted from items that would otherwise contribute to environmental harm—including old fishing nets, ropes, and even recycled engine oil. These repurposed materials are carefully processed and blended to create sturdy, high-quality tires that integrate into existing LEGO sets seamlessly.

“This is an exciting step in our ambition to make LEGO products more sustainable and reduce our dependence on virgin fossil fuels. Over the past five years, we have invested significant time in developing and testing this new recycled material to ensure it meets our high standards for quality, safety, and durability,” said Annette Stube, the company’s Chief Sustainability Officer.
