Innovation Saskatchewan is Investing $1.5M in New Innovation Hub
Colin Smith — January 9, 2025Innovation Saskatchewan has announced an investment of $1.5 million in the establishment of an Energy Innovation Hub at the Petroleum Technology Research Centre (PTRC) in Regina. The funding will support the development of a state-of-the-art facility aimed at advancing energy research and innovation, with a focus on subsurface energy resources. This initiative is expected to facilitate a coordinated approach to energy research, integrating subsurface infrastructure and resources within Saskatchewan.
The Energy Innovation Hub will enhance PTRC's ongoing research in key areas such as carbon capture utilization and storage (CCUS), enhanced oil recovery, and geothermal energy. Additionally, the hub will expand its research portfolio to include emerging priority areas like methane reduction, clean hydrogen, and compressed air energy storage. The facility will also provide advanced training opportunities, fostering collaboration between industry, researchers, and students, and aiding in the development of the next generation of talent in energy research.
