Sustainable Innovation Centres
IHI and A*STAR Partnered on Sustainable Manufacturing Innovation
Colin Smith — November 29, 2024The IHI-ISCE² Sustainable Innovation Centre is a collaborative initiative between IHI Corporation and ASTAR's Institute of Sustainability for Chemicals, Energy and Environment (ISCE²). Launched through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on March 10, 2022, the center aims to accelerate joint development in decarbonization projects such as methanation, lower olefin production, and sustainable aviation fuel. The partnership leverages IHI's expertise in heavy industry and ASTAR's research capabilities to foster collaborative and co-creation research, as well as co-commercialization with potential partners worldwide.
Since the initial Master Research Collaboration Agreement signed in 2014, the partnership has achieved significant milestones, including the delivery of IHI's first commercial methanation unit to the Asahi Group in 2021. The IHI-ISCE² Joint Sustainable Innovation Centre is envisioned as a hub for advancing low-carbon technologies and promoting sustainable practices, contributing to the global effort towards carbon neutrality.
