The governments of Canada and Manitoba have announced a $16.3 million grant under the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (Sustainable CAP) to support 101 projects focused on sustainable agriculture research and innovation. This funding aims to accelerate the development and adoption of technologies and practices that enhance the sustainability, resiliency, and competitiveness of the agriculture and agri-food sectors. The projects will address challenges such as climate change, resource management, and food security, benefiting stakeholders including primary producers, agri-processors, industry organizations, academic institutions, research bodies, and Indigenous communities.

The grant funding will support research and capacity building initiatives over the next three years, with a focus on innovative industry-led projects that promote sustainable agricultural practices. The initiative is expected to drive growth and economic development in rural Manitoba, positioning the region as a leader in sustainable agriculture. By investing in research and innovation, the governments aim to ensure the long-term viability and efficiency of the agri-food sector, ultimately contributing to a more sustainable and resilient food system.
