Sustainable Product Design Forums

The Ecodesign Forum From the European Commission

The European Commission recently launched the Ecodesign Forum as part of its efforts to promote sustainable products and reduce environmental impact. This expert group brings together stakeholders from industry, civil society, academia, and Member States to help implement the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR). The forum aims to establish mandatory performance and information requirements for products, ensuring they are more sustainable and contribute to a stronger EU single market. By fostering collaboration and transparency, the Ecodesign Forum seeks to accelerate progress towards reducing the environmental footprint of products throughout their lifecycle.

The Ecodesign Forum will play a crucial role in developing ecodesign requirements and working plans that outline priority products and measures to be addressed over a given period. This includes promoting energy efficiency, circular economy principles, and reducing energy consumption. The forum will also advise on energy labelling requirements for energy-related products, ensuring consistent rules across all Member States. By involving a wide range of stakeholders, the Ecodesign Forum aims to create a level playing field and encourage innovation, ultimately enhancing the EU's reputation as a leader in sustainability.
