Circular Manufacturing Programmes

The EU's Horizon Europe Program Funded 'DIAMeTER Project'

The DIAMETER Project, funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe program, aims to demonstrate a sustainable circular-by-design manufacturing system based on additive manufacturing. The project focuses on developing digital tools to facilitate circular economy strategies such as remanufacturing, renewal, repair, and material recycling in the aerospace, automotive, and molding industries. By integrating machine learning and artificial intelligence, the project seeks to enhance process monitoring and simulation, thereby improving design and production processes. The DIAMETER Project is coordinated by Sabancı University and involves a consortium of 18 partners from various countries.

The project's objectives include reducing the carbon footprint of the manufacturing sector, increasing recycling practices, and promoting greener Industry 4.0 practices. DIAMETER will develop two platforms: DIAdemia for workforce upskilling and DIAgonal for integrating circularity strategies into production processes. The project will validate its achievements through industrial use scenarios such as manufacturing catalytic converters, aircraft structural parts, and repairing pressing dies. This initiative aligns with the European Green Deal's goal of making Europe climate-neutral by 2050.
