Zero-Waste Grocery Stores
This Grocery Store is the First of Its Kind in Montreal
Mishal Omar — September 21, 2016This zero-waste grocery store is based in Montreal, Canada and is titled 'Mega Vrac' -- which means "Mega Bulk" in English.
The recently opened store provides over 700 products, all of which are unpackaged and instead stored in bulk. The store's hundreds of food items include dried fruits, herbs, spices, fresh produce and much more. Each and every one of the items is stored in bins or glass containers and customers are required to bring their own containers to fill up on the items. If necessary, they are also able to purchase glass jars, bottles and paper bags from the stores -- ensuring that everyone has access to the zero-waste grocery store when they need it. The store was designed in response to the excessive waste that the food industry produces.
The creation of this establishment is indicative of the shift towards lifestyles that are not only more friendly to the environment, but that are also more convenient.
