Biobased Hot-Melt Adhesives

Viherkaste Debuts a Biodegradable Adhesive for its Cardboard Packaging

Viherkaste, a brand known for its salad and herb products, is implementing a new biodegradable packaging adhesive by Kiilto that will primarily affect its cardboard packages. Kiilto has developed what it claims to be the world’s first biodegradable and compostable hot-melt adhesive, made with up to 70% biobased raw materials. Designed for recyclable packaging, the adhesive complies with EU Regulation 10/2011, making it safe for food packaging applications. This innovation supports the shift toward more sustainable packaging solutions, allowing businesses to champion environmental conservation in a new way.

“Not all solutions are simple, but the introduction of this adhesive was just that. We were pleased to find that it works even better than the adhesive we were using before in our process and packaging," said Viherkaste CEO Petri Nylund.
