Samsung Electronics has announced that it has developed usable technology components out of upcycled fishing nets. Through the collection of old plastics in the ocean, Samsung has found a way to both clean up the environment and alleviate some supply chain strain on its devices. According to Samsung, there are 640 thousand tons of fishing nets discarded each year that threaten the environment.

These plastics will be upcycled by the company and incorporated into the brand's products going forward. Most notably, the first line of products that will incorporate these upcycled ocean plastics is the company's flagship 'Galaxy' phones. This initiative is a large part of Samsung's mission to address the climate crisis. Samsung is committed to eliminating single-use plastics and is urging other tech companies to do the same.
