Recycled Plastic Clothing
Pharrell and G-Star Raw Collaborate Using Recycled Ocean Waste
Christopher Magsambol — August 20, 2015Pharrell Williams and G-Star Raw have collaborated on their third collection, but this time around, they have made a recycled plastic clothing line.
The entire collection is environmentally mindful and uses fabrics developed from textile company 'Bionic Yarn' and environmental group 'Parley for the Oceans.' The team's mantra during this venture is "turning the tide on ocean plastic pollution." Available online, the latest collection features jeans, denim jackets, t-shirts and sweatshirts. The line's signature piece is a hooded jacket called the 'Occotis HDD Bomber'. The inspiration for the bomber was a sketch made by Pharrell of a face-covering hooded jacket.
Recycled ocean waste has made numerous appearances in a number of recent clothing collections. Adidas has a shoe line made from ocean plastic, while Selfridges has an exhibit about recycling ocean plastic. This particular example of recycled plastic clothing marries sustainable design with an urban streetwear inspiration.
