PetSmart is set to become the first national retailer to pilot a West Paw dog toy takeback program in more than 75 stores, introducing a more eco-friendly way for pet owners to care for products at the end of their usable life if not curbside recyclable. Pre-loved toys can be placed within designated collection boxes at participating PetSmart stores. Once returned to West Paw, the dog toys are thoroughly sanitized, ground and returned to the manufacturing process to create new, infinitely recyclable Zogoflex and Seaflex toys.

PetSmart is also testing the takeback of other branded toys made from plastic or rubber-like materials, and to help pet owners live more sustainably, it's also implementing a pet food bag takeback program in partnership with TerraCycle.
