The Magnolia Eco-Cabin is Simple and Sustainable
Michael Hemsworth — April 1, 2023The Magnolia Eco-Cabin has been designed by architect Michael Quirk as a micro cabin situated in the forest near Nederland, Colorado that's ready to provide comfortable accommodates and more.
The cabin measures in at 120-square-feet and is finished with locally sourced birch plywood that has been charred with the Japanese Shou Sugi Ban method for enhanced preservation. The structure features reused metal panels were applicable along with reused doors and windows, while the insulation consists of hemp wool and hempcrete. The interior space features two rooms across two floors for comfortable, barebones living in the forest.
Quirk spoke on the Magnolia Eco-Cabin to New Atlas saying, "The carbon negative, eco tiny home was an idea that I came up with while on the Colorado Green Building Guild board, to highlight some of our members who are building material suppliers and also carbon negative/net zero energy building techniques. The cabin is successful in sequestering carbon through the organic nature of the materials used to build it."
