Trashless Cambodian Cities

Kampong Chhnang is the World's First "Trash-Free" Province

Kampong Chhnang has officially been declared plastic waste-free, making it the world's first province to achieve such a feat. As a result of a series of waste collection campaigns led by government representatives, the province focused on cleaning up 41 roads with the help of local schools and pagodas, in addition to large corporations and private enterprises.

“Cleanliness, within the framework of environmental strategy, starts from the heart and extends to the land, sky and water around us. When we cultivate cleanliness in our hearts, our surroundings naturally reflect that, ensuring a clean and sustainable society,” said Eang Sophalleth, Minster of Envrionment.

The city hopes that, moving forward, it will be able to leverage the capabilities of local authorities and stakeholders to enhance waste management strategies further.
