Hyundai is Expanding its EU R&D Sites to Accelerate Sustainable Mobility
Colin Smith — January 30, 2025Hyundai Motor Group is significantly expanding its European research and development (R&D) facilities to reinforce its commitment to sustainable mobility and automotive innovation. The expansion includes a test center extension at Nürburgring, adding 834 square meters of advanced facilities, such as workshops, specialized laboratories, and high-voltage electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. This development aims to enhance Hyundai's capabilities in electric vehicle technology, high-performance systems, and sustainability. The company's long-standing involvement at Nürburgring, dating back to 2011, has been pivotal in its vehicle development process.
Additionally, Hyundai is set to open the Square Campus in the Rhine-Main region in March 2025. This state-of-the-art facility will span over 25,000 square meters and house Hyundai's largest four-wheel noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) dynamometer, as well as advanced chassis and powertrain dynos. These tools will simulate and evaluate vehicle performance under various conditions, reducing the need for extensive on-road testing. The Square Campus will focus on developing technologies for EVs, advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), infotainment, and electrification, aligning with Hyundai's goal of achieving zero-tailpipe emissions in Europe by 2035.
