Sustainable Peat-Free Mushrooms

Grown Without Peat Mushrooms are Headed to Sainsbury's in the UK

Grown without Peat Mushrooms are arriving at Sainsbury's in the UK in a bid to help make the product more sustainable and reduce peat use on a drastic level. The mushrooms come in two options including White Closed Cup and White Baby Button, which will both contribute towards peat usage reduction by as much as 20,465 tones per year, according to the brand. This will help the brand to get closer to its Net Zero goal in its supply chain and also help consumers to do their part by purchasing more sustainable food options.

Director of Fresh Food Richard Crampton commented on the Sainsbury's Grown without Peat Mushrooms saying, "We’re proud to be the first supermarket in the UK to bring peat-free mushrooms to our customers, who want easy ways to make more responsible choices when buying food, without compromising on quality. This wouldn’t have been possible without the work of our partner Monaghan who spent 10 years coming up with the alternative.”
