ASML Partnered with imec on Semiconductor Research

ASML and imec have entered into a five-year strategic partnership to advance semiconductor research and promote sustainable innovation. This collaboration incorporates ASML's full product portfolio, including advanced technologies such as 0.55 NA EUV, 0.33 NA EUV, DUV immersion, YieldStar optical metrology, and HMI single- and multi-beam systems. These tools will be installed at imec's NanoIC pilot line, which is supported by the European Chips Act and aims to provide cutting-edge infrastructure for sub-2nm research and development. The partnership focuses on areas such as silicon photonics, memory, advanced packaging, and full-stack innovation for semiconductor-based AI applications. Additionally, the collaboration includes funding for innovative projects within imec's research funnel that deliver environmental and societal benefits.

This partnership builds on the longstanding relationship between ASML and imec, which has spanned over three decades. It aligns with both organizations' goals of addressing the challenges of AI-driven technological advancements while fostering sustainability in the semiconductor industry. The initiative is supported by funding from the Chips Joint Undertaking, the Flemish government, and the Dutch government, emphasizing its importance within the European Union's broader strategy for technological and environmental progress. By combining their expertise, ASML and imec aim to develop solutions that not only advance semiconductor technology but also contribute to a more sustainable and resilient global economy.
