Temperature-Regulating Bus Stops

Ahmedabad’s Cool Bus Stop Offers Relief from the Intense Heat
Kanesa D — March 20, 2025The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Services (AMTS), in collaboration with Mahila Housing Trust (MHT), have introduced an innovative ‘Cool Bus Stop’ at Lal Darwaja, specifically on platforms 7 and 8. This location was chosen due to its intense sun exposure and the steady flow of approximately 3,000 commuters daily.
Designed for comfort and sustainability, the bus stop incorporates khus curtains made from dried vetiver grass, which serve as natural shields against heat while allowing air to circulate freely. Enhancing the cooling effect is a high-pressure mist system that releases ultra-fine water droplets, reducing ambient temperature and improving air quality by minimizing dust.
Unlike traditional air conditioning, the mist system operates with significantly lower energy consumption, reducing its environmental impact. Innovative technology, including automated timers and water-saving mechanisms, ensures efficient operation while maintaining an eco-friendly footprint.
